Overview

“Ataraxia” is an ancient Greek term that translates roughly to “lack of disturbance,” so “tranquility” and “equanimity” are often used as the translations. Different Greek philosophies interpreted ataraxia differently, with Stoic philosophers like Seneca often using it interchangeably with “apathaeia” though Epicurean philosophers would challenge that.
