Overview

All California Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous (ACYPAA) was established in 1973 after decades of Young People’s groups had formed in cities like Los Angeles to reach new demographics, since most AA members at the time were older white middle-class men who had histories with alcohol longer than some of the younger members had even been alive. The organization’s Advisory Council was established as the administrative body to keep growing the network between the annual conferences. Namely, the Advisory Council manages a bidding system where young people’s committees from across California cities compete to be chosen to host the annual Roundup- a process which involves a skit, a Q&A interview, and financial and logistical reviews.
