Overview

Ambivalence refers to the state of holding mixed feelings or thoughts, though it is often incorrectly used to mean “indifferent” rather than “conflicted.” For instance, one might really love their family but also experience a lot of stress talking to them, which means that the idea of interacting with them can feel conflicting. Another common example is wanting to quit a job that feels unbearable but also finding the financial instability of unemployment unbearable.
