Overview
Attapulgite is a magnesium-aluminum silicate clay mineral that’s often used as to treat diarrhea and stomach distress. It binds to bacteria and toxins in the digestive tract to harden loose stool and soothe gastrointestinal linings. It can also be found in some industrial drilling sites as a thickening agent and litter boxes for its high liquid absorption.
For a while, Donnagel was one of the more popular forms of it available over-the-counter, though medicines like Pepto-Bismol outperformed it after.
