Overview

Deliverance refers to being freed or rescued. The term is used often in AA literature like the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous to describe a release from the obsession of drinking, generally by confessing powerlessness and surrendering to a Higher Power who delivers one to a state of sobriety.
