Overview

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a medical procedure that runs electrical currents to the brain and triggers seizures for mental health conditions that are otherwise treatment-resistant. This stimulates a kind of reset in the brain that can break toxic patterns without needing weeks or months like antidepressants and therapeutic interventions.

Commentary

I was honestly surprised that ECT was still a real thing and not just known as a meme from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest that was as archaic and pseudoscientific as icepick lobotomies. Not only is it a real thing actually, but it has an incredibly strong base of evidence as an acute intervention.
