Overview
Often referred to as skin-picking, excoriation disorder is considered a form of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in which someone feels compulsions to pick at their skin or lips, even to the point of leaving scars that bleed. One of the most effective interventions for excoriation disorder is exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), a type of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that builds tolerance and comfort in avoiding compulsive behaviors.
