Overview
Heroin, or diacetylmorphine, is a synthetically manufactured substance that uses natural morphine as a base before being altered with chemical groups to dissolve more effectively in lipids and penetrate the blood-brain barrier. It metabolizes back into morphine inside the central nervous system, but the rapid and concentrated delivery presents more intense impacts and a higher risk of dependency or death from respiratory depression.
