Overview
Inflammation is typically a response from an immune system that increases blood flow, heat, and fluid build up towards some area of the body that might be injured, infected, or irritated.
In the short-term, in cases such as a cut or a cold, inflammation is a healing process that helped deliver immune cells and healing factors to an affected region of the body. In the long-term, chronic inflammation can damage healthy tissues and increase the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.
