I’ve had the pleasure of participating in Bornstein’s Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory during my time at the University of California - Irvine, and I credit this experience with helping me appreciate cognitive science. It also shaped my biases towards computational modeling and data-driven approaches in discussions about the mind and brain, including skepticism towards institutionally-enshrined therapeutic modalities that don’t have a clear solution to the translation problem of converting findings from state-of-the-art research to clinical practices.
